Strawberry/Cherry Times! E-mail
City Life - Report
Written by Alex Absar
If you are confused about what to do during weekends this month in Xi’an or if you feel like you have visited almost all the places in Xi'an, then, you should gear up for a day trip to visit beautiful strawberry field and Cherry garden. They are not so far away from downtown neither inconvenient to get there.

It's gonna be very surprising to the people who have not seen strawberry field before cause they often think strawberry grows on the trees as the other usual fruits. Anyway, fresh strawberry right in your mouth straight from the field always tastes better than the ones from the market. You can take either 215 or 603 bus from the bell tower heading to south and get off at the bus stop Quzhengfu (区政府) to switch the bus to get on 4-08 bus to Luanzhen (滦镇). You gotta take Chinese typical Tricycle from Luanzhen to get to the strawberry field.

You could tell them wo xiang qu cao mei di (我想去草莓园) that means I wanna go to strawberry field. The tricycle fare is maximum 5 RMB. The tricycle will take you from the noisy street to the quiet rural area to reach the field. I’m pretty sure you’ll be fascinated by the huge strawberry field when you get there but don’t jump over the fence to get into the field without the owner’s permission. You’ll see many farmers around the field. Just approach to them and tell them you’ll pay for the strawberry you pick. Don’t forget to fix the price of strawberry before getting into the field. They will be happy to show you around.

The strawberry field is located to the southern part of Xi’an where the Cherry garden is to the east. You can either take 240 bus from the train station or 910 bus from the outside of the Southgate to the eastern suburb and get off at di zhai. You are gonna see a number of Universities up on the hill on your way to di zhai (狄寨路). You can take tricycle from the bus station of di zhai to the Cherry garden. You can tell them, “I wanna go to the Cherry garden” in Chinese "wo yao qu yin tao yuan" (我要去樱桃园)  and the tricycle fare is maximum 5 RMB. The gardens are located on the slope of the mountain.

It will cost you 10 RMB (At the beginning, it was around 10 RMB for half a kilo. I think it should be around 5 RMB or less for half a kilo now..) for entering in a garden to have as much fresh cherry as you can and the owner will provide you ladder to pick cherry from the trees. Choose the big ones, you will get mouth full of sweet juice in each bite. But you gotta pay extra for the cherry you take home. So, enjoy your summer before it gets too hot in Xi’an!

I found the scenery so amazing that i spent a night over there in a nearby hotel, enjoying the food and came back with a bucket of cherries! It was great!
