Baby-snatcher arrested E-mail
News - Xi'an News
Written by ND
A young woman - 22 years of age - was arrested yesterday on 30. November 2009 after an intensive manhunt. She was rightly suspected of having stolen/kidnapped a newborn baby in the maternity ward of  "No. 1 Hospital" in Xi'an on 21. November.

The suspect was arrested in the late afternoon in Dongguan, a city in Guangdong province. She is a resident of Xi'an but works in Dongguan. According to local media and official police statements the woman is not involved in human trafficking. The motive for kidnapping the newborn still remain unknown. Meanwhile,  the baby is in perfect health and will be reunited with the mother within this week. The kidnapper was dressed like a nurse when she sneaked in No. 1 hospital which is affiliated to Xi'an Jiatong University on 21. November 2009.

It is obvious that she looked for a victim by chance and had no specific target. She found the maternity room of the babies` mother ZHANG LANFANG wide open and unattended by the hospital staff and went in, telling the mother that she had to conduct a medical check with her baby. She then left and fled.
