Hancheng City, located northest of Shaanxi Province in China, is known as the “Coal City”. It also has China’s most abundant coalbed methane reserves, with proven reserve of 408 billion cubic meters.

These valuable resources attract many leading oil and gas companies to invest and start exploration on CBM projects. China National Petroleum Coporation is one of the key pioneers here and have announced that they will invest US$231 million (RMB 1.58 billion) to develop a coalbed methane (CBM) project in Hancheng. Plans have been made to 327 wells, improve 1 CNG station and construct 5 more CNG stations by 2010.
